Effect of Acute Carbon Monoxide Intoxication on Myocardial Cytochrome Oxidase Activity in Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
This present studies were performed to determine the changes of myocardial cytochrome oxidase activities with acute carbon mop-oxide intoxication in rats.
Experimental animals (Sprague-Dawley strained rats) were exposed to 0. 1% carbon monoxide for 5 minutes to 24 hours.
Histochemical stain had been made for changes of myocardial cytochrome oxidase activities according to the different exposure time lapse.
The following results were obtained :
1. The cytochrome oxidase activities of myocardium were decreased moderately from 15 minutes to I hour groups.
2. The activities were recovered as normal group in 2 hours and 4 hours groups.
3. The activities from 8 hours to 24 hours groups were decreasead a gain to moderate.
4. The decrement of cytochrome oxidase activities were particularly at the dark bands of myocardium
